If you are a Nigerian shopper scrolling through AliExpress, you are probably asking yourself one specific question before you hit that “Pay” button:

“Does AliExpress deliver to door in Nigeria, or will I have to go fight for my package at the Post Office?”

The answer is yes, but it depends strictly on the AliExpress shipping method for Nigeria you choose.

For years, the Nigerian AliExpress experience involved long queues at NIPOST offices, missing parcels, and confusing “handling fees.” However, the logistics landscape has shifted dramatically in 2025. Today, doorstep delivery is not just possible—it is the standard for savvy shoppers who know which buttons to click.

This guide will explain exactly how to guarantee doorstep delivery and avoid the stress of the post office.

The Short Answer: Yes, No, and Maybe

Whether your package arrives at your doorstep or gets stuck at a NIPOST branch depends entirely on the Shipping Method you select at checkout.

How to Get Doorstep Delivery (The Secret is Speedaf)

To understand why some people get doorstep delivery and others don’t, you need to know about Speedaf Express.

Speedaf is a logistics company that partnered with AliExpress to solve the “Nigeria Problem.” Unlike NIPOST (the government postal service), Speedaf operates like a private courier (similar to GIG or Red Star).

The “Magic” Formula for Doorstep Delivery:

If you want the rider to call you and bring the package to your gate, you must select AliExpress Standard Shipping.

1. Selection: When viewing an item, click on “Delivery.”
2. Choice: Select “AliExpress Standard Shipping.” It might cost $2 – $4 extra compared to the “Free” option.
3. Result: Your package is automatically routed to Speedaf.
4. The Delivery: Speedaf riders will call your phone number when they are in your area and deliver it to your home or office address.

Note for Remote Areas: If you live in a very rural area where Speedaf does not have coverage, they might hand your package over to a third-party partner or ask you to pick it up from their nearest hub. However, for major cities (Lagos, Abuja, PH, Ibadan, Kano, Benin), doorstep delivery is the norm.

When Does AliExpress Not Deliver to Door?

If you choose the “Free Shipping” options like Cainiao Super Economy Global or SunYou Economic Air Mail, you are almost guaranteed NOT to get doorstep delivery.

The “Free Shipping” Trap:

1. The Route: These packages are treated as standard international mail.
2. The Handover: They are handed over to NIPOST once they land in Nigeria.
3. The Notification: NIPOST rarely calls. They might send a paper slip to your PO Box (if you have one), but usually, you get zero notification.
4. The Pickup: You must physically go to the nearest Post Office, search through a ledger, and hope they can find your item.
5. The Fees: You will likely be asked to pay a small “verification” or “handling” fee (₦500 – ₦1,000) at the counter.

Verdict: If you value your time and want doorstep delivery, avoid “Super Economy” shipping.

How to Ensure Your Doorstep Delivery Does Not Fail

Even if you pay for Standard Shipping, delivery can fail if your details are wrong. Nigerian addresses can be unstructured, so you need to help the delivery rider help you.

1. The “Phone Number” Hack

This is the most important rule.

Delivery riders in Nigeria rely on phone calls, not street signs.

• Add your phone number to your address line.
• When filling out your shipping address on AliExpress, put your number in “Address Line 2” or right next to your street name.
• Example: “15 Adeola Odeku Street (08012345678), Victoria Island.”
• Why? Sometimes the official phone number field gets cut off on the printed label. If it’s in the address text, they will definitely see it.

2. Use a Popular Landmark

Don’t just write “Plot 4, Road 2.”

Add a landmark that any okada or dispatch rider would know.

• Example: “Behind Zenith Bank” or “Opposite Chicken Republic.”

3. Be Available (or Delegate)

Speedaf usually sends an SMS on the morning of delivery saying, “Your package is out for delivery with Rider [Name] [Phone Number].”

• Keep your phone on.
• If you won’t be home, tell your security guard or reception that a package is coming.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Does AliExpress deliver to the door in Lagos?

A: Yes. If you use AliExpress Standard Shipping, Speedaf covers almost all of Lagos (Island and Mainland) with doorstep delivery.

Q: Does AliExpress deliver to the door in Abuja and Port Harcourt?

A: Yes. Major state capitals have Speedaf hubs. Delivery is usually to your door.

Q: What if I am not home when they come?

A: The rider will call you. You can ask them to reschedule for the next day, or ask them to drop it with a neighbor/security. If they miss you twice, you may have to go to their local office to pick it up.

Q: Do I have to pay the delivery man extra money?

A: No. You already paid for shipping on the AliExpress app. However, tipping the rider (₦500 or so) is a common courtesy in Nigeria if they offer good service, but it is not mandatory.

Q: How do I know if my package is with Speedaf (Doorstep) or NIPOST (Pickup)?

A: Check your tracking number.

• If it looks like NG…SD, it is with Speedaf (Doorstep).
• If it looks like S00… or just numbers, and the tracking stops update, it is likely with NIPOST (Pickup).

Conclusion
